Instructor: ALITHEA SMITH
|
Alithea was born in landlocked Calgary, and she was raised as a Maritimer in Nova Scotia. However,
she didn't start her underwater adventures until she moved to the Pacific Northwest. She quickly
made the transition from a newbie at Whytecliff Park to technical instructor, gaining invaluable
experience as the manager of two Vancouver area dive shops. It didn't take long for her maritime
roots to draw her to shipwrecks and to any type of diving that allows her to stay longer and go
deeper inside an overhead environment. As a member of Expedition Empress 2005, Alithea is one of a
handful of female divers to explore the Empress of Ireland, a historically significant Canadian
shipwreck. Alithea is the Education Director of the Underwater
Archaeological Society of British Columbia.
